Life Aquatic Records Release :

[LA002] Albatross : Murder / Casper’s Theme

Its finally time to announce our next 7” vinyl release: AlbatrossMurder / Casper’s Theme double A-side. One of the most exciting acts to emerge from Sydney in the last year has definitely been Albatross.. They take their time perfecting their sounds and hence have not released a great deal of mp3s, so it makes this 7” all the more special. The amazing album art was made by the talented Jacob Ring, who we hope to work with again in the future.

It has been a pretty complicated few months with Lucas (head of Life Aquatic Records) and I only seeing each other once in the past 6 months, when I just got back from Europe and as he was leaving to Europe. We managed to still hustle up the funds to pay for this wax release and we are pretty proud of it. The mp3s are free but you can pre-order the 7” vinyl from our Bigcartel page. There will only be 250 copies of these bad boys so get in there quick before they run out.

The full release is availible on their Bandcamp long with two incredible remixes by Guerre and Dro Carey.

Guerre // See The Birds (Albatross Remix)

Sydney’s Albatross give Guerre’s See The Birds a warped slow motion treatment. Deepening Lavurn’s falsetto and placing it over their strummed chords, stuttering piano keys and a jazz infused bass line. The remix comes off a stunning remix EP for Guerre’s Darker My Love EP which is coming out on Yes, Please in a few weeks time. I was lucky enough to catch this mix being performed live at last night’s Remix EP launch at Serial Space, hosted by Yes, Please themselves. Download the remixes from Yes, Please’s Bandcamp in exchange for your email address. [photo]

Albatross // Golden Hue

Sydney’s Albatross return after their hit Sirens with this mildly glitchy but beautifully flowing track Golden Hue. Their blend of perfectly harmonized falsetto vocals and benignly erratic beats sit well next to tracks by Baths and possibly some tracks by Collarbones. In a short email conversation, Albatross noted that the track had a summer vibe, however it fits so perfectly with sitting in a warm room while watching the snow fall outside onto the streets of Zurich.

Albatross // Sirens

Only a few months after departing from their previous band, Sam Weston and Tom McAlister gift us with their fresh new electronic ‘brain child’.

Sirens has been playing on off my computer for the last few days on virtual repeat. They appear to be drawing from a large number of influences, as it combines elements of hip hop, shoegaze and glo-fi. The track is built around a thick layer of pulsating synth strings and pensive falsetto vocals that lies underneath the unsettling rollerdexed kick drums and a well protected harp melody that breaks free from its shell in warped, chopped up little bursts.

Its so exciting to see all these dynamic lofi electronic duo’s appearing in Sydney, Collarbones and Fishing being to other favourites of mine.

Albatross are preparing a release so stay tuned for that one by following them on their Myspace and Soundcloud.
