Blackbird Blackbird // Hawaii (Chrome Sparks remix)

Chrome Sparks heroically returns with this choice remix of my favourite Blackbird Blackbird track off his album Summer Heart. You have probably first heard of Chrome Sparks through his stunner of a track I’ll Be Wait For Sadness Comes Along, which you can listen to over here. In this one he leaves you craving the sparsely supplied bass line that curls and melts around itself. He is a truly talented producer. I hope we see much more from this kid in the coming months.

Cursed Kids // Eugene

Mikey from Blackbird Blackbird fame has sprung up with his new project Cursed Kids.

Using a tribal rhythm he dresses this airy pop tune with layers of synth hooks and less falsetto sounding vocals than what we are used to from Blackbird Blackbird. The stand out for me is the driving guitar riff, which sounds like its been recorded with great care.

Download Eugene for free from his Bandcamp.

This new moniker doesn’t mean that he won’t be making tunes as Blackbird Blackbird anymore, just in case any of you fans were worried.

Seeing Suge // Breaking

Seeing Suge sees Star Slinger, Blackbird Blackbird and EmAy join their super musical power together to create dense hip hop with undertones of glo-fi.

I remember Darren sending a few of us this track in its beginning stages. The clear Memory house vocal sample kicked in and then out of nowhere came EmAy’s determined rhymes. That moment truly made me think that I have come in contact with some true talent through this small blog. If it were to be deleted today that feeling of hearing Breaking for the first time will have made it all worth it. The only sad part about this is that soon these artists will be accelerated into greater fame, there will be no point in be blogging them to bring them to your attention.

Grab the four track release from Seeing Suge’s new Bandcamp. The three other tracks are fresh releases by The three collaborating artists. I can’t wait to hear whats next from these three.

You can take it from here Larry.

Blackbird Blackbird // Pure

Check out this amazingly synchronised official video for Blackbird Blackbird’s Pure made by Isaac Bauman.

Grab a copy of the 7” from Double Denim Records here. I’m looking at mine on my shelf.

Police Academy 6 & Unouomedude // Icarus

This brand new collaboration comes as a delightful surprise.

PA6 starts the track off with their signature tape warped analog synth chords that hum along ominously. It begins to lighten up as Uno enters, who I speculate added the light arpeggiated synth hook and subsequently his uplifting chorused vocals. The combination of the dark and the light fits so well together. I can’t stop picturing this song being performed on stage with a children’s choir.

This track is taken off PA6’s upcoming full length to be released in the northern hemisphere’s autumn (so pretty soon). I’ll make sure I put a few dollars aside for that one.

It seems that Uno will be collaborating with Blackbird Blackbird as well, so keep your ears sharpened for it.

Blackbird Blackbird // Crumble Before Your Eyes

Mikey from Blackbird Blackbird has invited us back to the world of soft Rhodes sounding keys and glossy side chained vocals where anything is possible. Crumble Before Your Eyes sits confidently as a standalone track on his Bandcamp,. Only having finished it a few hours ago, he wastes no time.

Superhumanoids have recorded a great remix to Blackbird Blackbird’s hit Hawaii from his Summer Heart album. It was dropped into my inbox literally 30 minutes after this track was sent to me. Check out Superhumanoids Urgency EP over here.

Blackbird Blackbird // Understanding

Blackbird Blackbird has got to be one of the hardest working musicians around at the moment. He is constantly releasing new tracks/collaborations/remixes, I literally can’t keep up with it.

This time he has released a free EP titled Rarities. It consists of tracks that didn’t quite make the cut for his recently released full length Summer Heart.

The track I’m posting is a slower, softer track with ties to R&B. The gliding synth chords nestled behind his layered vocals will have you playing this one a few times in succession.

Grab the EP off his Bandcamp. While you’re there you should buy his full length for 10 bucks. I’m hanging out for the cassette release which should be out on Wonder Beard Tapes by September.

Kohwi // rem

Cory Levinson has recently released this single on his Bandcamp which is an introduction/teaser to his upcoming full length album that will be covering a lot of different styles.

With rem Kohwi humbly sips from the Brian Eno’s lake and creates an intergalactic nightmare. The track starts off with glowing hot synths that burn a path through a world where aliens chatter amongst themselves. It makes a progression into something with a more recognizable form whilst keeping the strangeness of what lay before it.

Kohwi has also made some great remixes for dudes like Blackbird Blackbird and Coma Cinema check them out on his Bandcamp.

Pao Pao // Liberia (Prizes collaboration)

I’m really excited about this release. I’ve already posted something about Blackbird Blackbird’s Pure. The second track on the 7” is a great minimalist dance track with subtle percussion and soft plucked synths. I’m assuming its Prizes’ Hari Ashurst layered vocals eased on top. All to do now is for me to inquire if they ship to the land down under.

Blackbird Blackbird/Paopao (feat. Prizes) 7” Split

Here it is, the final line-up of music for our 7” split single. The b-side takes the form of ‘Liberia’ the work of a collaboration between previously blogged Paopao and Prizes (formerly Treasure).

When we found Sweden’s Paopao a few weeks ago for the blog we fell for their blissed out techno instantly. ‘Resort’ has become a favourite to play out and indoors at high volume and we are enormously pleased to bring you their collaboration with London’s very own Prizes. Prizes charmed everybody going with ‘Canada’ a couple of months ago, a smooth pop song with a big chorus. The same treatment is given on ‘Liberia’, another lovelorn song longing for distant shores, with a big chorus.
