Fishing // White Sheet Beach

I’ve heard this lush, synth heavy head nodder quite a few times during their amazing live sets so I’m super excited to finally have an mp3 version of it. As with most of their stuff, the melody is filled with a sense of tropical delight and the beat is full of bounce. This track comes off a compilation of their older tracks which you can download here. Their single OOOO is availible for purchase over here on a cool 7” vinyl. Also, keep your eyes out for a yet to be announced Life Aquatic event featuring these two beatsmiths on a sunday afternoon in May. [photo]

Alpine // Heartlove (FISHING Backyard Bonding Remix)

Alpine not only make some of the best new Australian pop, they also have a knack for finding some of the best producers to remix their tracks. The last one was the very popular Star Slinger remix of Icy Poles, this time Sydney faves FISHING are gifted with the opportunity.

FISHING start off the remix with something that sounds like a warped Enya track. The strength of this remix is the quirky warping of the short vocal samples, which are threaded back together with MPC pads over the tropical background melodies.

This is my second FISHING post in a matter of a few days. I could almost become a FuckYeahFishing blog. I’ll always keep that option open.

Catch both Alpine and FISHING on the 11th of November at the Oxford Art Factory supporting Jinja Safari.

Grab the original Heartlove over at iTunes for a cool buck sixty nine.

PremiereFISHING & Guerre //  Boyfriend

Late last night I received an email from Russell from Fishing containing this gem of a collaboration track.

FISHING takes a short break from their tropical island, sampled jams to create this magical bed of harp samples and subtle percussion. According to Russell he had created this track and then thought of Lavurn aka Guerre. Its almost hard to believe it wasn’t the other way around. The sound is so perfectly tailored to Guerre’s lovesick vocals dripping with R&B influence.

Be sure to follow FISHING on Myspace to catch updates on a 7” that they will be releasing soon, with their smash hit OOOO on the a-side.

Follow Guerre on his awesome tumblr blog to listen to an amazing quantity of newly made tracks.

Jinja Safari // Peter Pan (FISHING sandy pant remix)

FISHING are without a doubt my favourite Sydney producers and live act. If you haven’t heard of them yet, you should start paying closer attention.

Their latest achievement is turning an originally folky sounding track into something that would fit right into a Nintendo 64 game (Banjo Kazooie in particular). Using reversed vocal samples and tropical synth hits they fill out the empty spaces of the original by adding their signature quirkiness.

FISHING are touring all over the place with Jinja Safari and other acts so do yourself a favour and catch them live. I’ll be heading down to the Oxford Art Factory this Friday to catch them with our buddies Alpine.

Albatross // Sirens

Only a few months after departing from their previous band, Sam Weston and Tom McAlister gift us with their fresh new electronic ‘brain child’.

Sirens has been playing on off my computer for the last few days on virtual repeat. They appear to be drawing from a large number of influences, as it combines elements of hip hop, shoegaze and glo-fi. The track is built around a thick layer of pulsating synth strings and pensive falsetto vocals that lies underneath the unsettling rollerdexed kick drums and a well protected harp melody that breaks free from its shell in warped, chopped up little bursts.

Its so exciting to see all these dynamic lofi electronic duo’s appearing in Sydney, Collarbones and Fishing being to other favourites of mine.

Albatross are preparing a release so stay tuned for that one by following them on their Myspace and Soundcloud.

FISHING // OOOO

So stoked to see a fellow Sydney bro on the double denim.

This track has such a great tropical vibe, using some amazing vocal samples and some catchy synth hooks.

doubledenimrecords:

Everywhere you walk in Jamaica you hear Bob Marley. Blasting out of big speakers at bars, chicken stands, or just in the air from somewhere out of sight. The only time I didn’t hear Bob Marley was on a glass bottomed boat. The guy was at least 6 foot and he carried a trail of weed smoke as he took us toward his boat. It was cheap, the boat was old, we got on, we sailed out into the ocean. It sparkled and turtles swam beneath us. I jumped into the water and stroked its silvery surface with my hand, my hair floating just beneath the surface, life all around us. Back on the boat our guy exchanged money for packages with another boat that pulled up. That day we were, all of us, fishing.
