Rainbow Chan // Sweet Tooth (Guerre Remix)

Two of Sydney’s favourite obscure electronic artists and songwriters Rainbow Chan and Lavurn Lee a.k.a. Guerre come together on this remix of Rainbow’s stunning dark pop track Sweet Tooth. Guerre keeps this piece as reserved as possible using Ifan Dafydd-esque chords and sampling style while leaving large amounts of breathing space. A blunt kick and a single clap command the rhythm as sharp hi hats dance about in between. Download the remix over at Rainbow’s bandcamp, accompanied by a remix by Sydney lords Albatross [photo]

Guerre // See The Birds (Albatross Remix)

Sydney’s Albatross give Guerre’s See The Birds a warped slow motion treatment. Deepening Lavurn’s falsetto and placing it over their strummed chords, stuttering piano keys and a jazz infused bass line. The remix comes off a stunning remix EP for Guerre’s Darker My Love EP which is coming out on Yes, Please in a few weeks time. I was lucky enough to catch this mix being performed live at last night’s Remix EP launch at Serial Space, hosted by Yes, Please themselves. Download the remixes from Yes, Please’s Bandcamp in exchange for your email address. [photo]

Guerre // Palms

The other day Lavurn was chilling out at my place and decided to show me this piece on his Myspace page. Its pensive string chords sit steadily under the droplets of chopped up vocal samples that rain down upon them. Be sure to check out this amazing video of Lavurn performing River Hymnal live on a rooftop over here courtesy of no dice paradise. Also download his latest free split EP here courtesy of Absent Fever. [photo]

PremiereFISHING & Guerre //  Boyfriend

Late last night I received an email from Russell from Fishing containing this gem of a collaboration track.

FISHING takes a short break from their tropical island, sampled jams to create this magical bed of harp samples and subtle percussion. According to Russell he had created this track and then thought of Lavurn aka Guerre. Its almost hard to believe it wasn’t the other way around. The sound is so perfectly tailored to Guerre’s lovesick vocals dripping with R&B influence.

Be sure to follow FISHING on Myspace to catch updates on a 7” that they will be releasing soon, with their smash hit OOOO on the a-side.

Follow Guerre on his awesome tumblr blog to listen to an amazing quantity of newly made tracks.

Guerre & Top Girls // Waiting

Ever since I heard that these two would be collaborating I’ve been counting down the days. Finally we get a peak at what their combined forces amount to.

Lofi R&B with dark and melancholy vibes is becoming increasingly popular, thanks to well received artists like How To Dress Well. Guerre and Top girls have both proven that they can master the style on their own, and have now consolidated it with their collab.

For a collaborative track Waiting is surprisingly built up of few elements. Evan and Lavurn both hold back to allow for the reversed samples and the shoegazy glow to mold together. Soft, reverberating falsetto vocals laced with misery drift above the clouds.

I’ve been informed that they will be releasing a split EP in the future. They can’t go wrong with tunes like this one.

Guerre // Hey Light

I heard this track on the consistantly fantastic blog Friends With Both Arms today and instantly opened Tumblr to post it.

Guerre is a Canadian living here in Sydney who records his tunes in his bedroom using presumably a laptop and a microphone. I sense a certain amount of homesickness and loneliness in his tracks, but then again I might only be thinking this because I know he is from abroad.

This particular track features his layered vocals and an array of guitar samples mixed together to create a thick ooze of sound.

The album art is for a single called Somewhere Craving The Night. Listen to it on his Soundcloud.

It turns out I received a file from Guerre through my Soundcloud Dropbox but I mustn’t have heard it. I should listen to everything that’s dropped to me in future. I apologize.
