Jinja Safari // Peter Pan (FISHING sandy pant remix)

FISHING are without a doubt my favourite Sydney producers and live act. If you haven’t heard of them yet, you should start paying closer attention.

Their latest achievement is turning an originally folky sounding track into something that would fit right into a Nintendo 64 game (Banjo Kazooie in particular). Using reversed vocal samples and tropical synth hits they fill out the empty spaces of the original by adding their signature quirkiness.

FISHING are touring all over the place with Jinja Safari and other acts so do yourself a favour and catch them live. I’ll be heading down to the Oxford Art Factory this Friday to catch them with our buddies Alpine.

Blackbird Blackbird // Crumble Before Your Eyes

Mikey from Blackbird Blackbird has invited us back to the world of soft Rhodes sounding keys and glossy side chained vocals where anything is possible. Crumble Before Your Eyes sits confidently as a standalone track on his Bandcamp,. Only having finished it a few hours ago, he wastes no time.

Superhumanoids have recorded a great remix to Blackbird Blackbird’s hit Hawaii from his Summer Heart album. It was dropped into my inbox literally 30 minutes after this track was sent to me. Check out Superhumanoids Urgency EP over here.

We Have Band // Oh! (Prizes Remix)

Prizes completely transforms the track into something more withheld and flowing. The vocal samples are chopped up and mixed together creating a melodic salad. Soft percussion and a flowing guitar riff are then carefully slotted into the delicate piece.

The original of this track was hammered out on the Australian radio station Triple J for quite some time. We have band have released an EP for the track Oh! including the remix by Prizes. You can buy it here for £1.79.

Also some exciting news from the Prizes camp:

We’re working on a mixtape right now with guest vocals, remakes and some songs with samples that nobody is ever going to clear for us. It’s gonna happen in August.

It should be added that I shamelessly reblogged this from Prizes tumblr.

Top Girls // Faded Feeling (Persona La Ave Temptress Mix)

Persona La Ave transforms an already great track into one of his signature journeys.

It starts off by putting an emphasis on Top Girls’ haunting vocals by slicing it up and layering in on top of itself. It then slowly evolves into eerie 80’s dream pop.

Follow Persona on his Tumblrz.

Evenings // Babe [Prizes Remix]

By now all of you should be aware that everything Prizes releases is gold.

This time Hari Ashurst remixes an already stunning track by Evenings. What will stand out the most is that Hari provides his recognisable layered vocals with appropriately chosen lyrics.

What I dig about this remix the most is the way he smoothes the track out, dampening the glitshiness of the original and adding his trademark tom drums to give it a slightly carribean vibe.

I stronly encourage you to download Evenings’ free EP North Dorm over at their Bandcamp.

Also go and pre-order the incredible Blackbird Blackbird Prizes/PaoPao split 7” over at double denim records, the most promising new label of 2010.

Fiveng // Jonah (Star Slinger Remix)

I’ve been posting a lot of Star Slinger of late. But listening listening to this remix he did of Fiveng’s Jonah you will see why.

The Jonah single will be availible from their Bandcamp on August the 23rd.

I’ve implored you all many a time to listen to Star Slinger’s Volume 1, but I’m going to do it again. Download it from his clean minimalist website: starslinger.net.

Persona La Ave // Beach 2 (GOBBLE GOBBLE R. Kelly Magic Carpet)

Genius remix of a genius track. Check out Persona La Ave’s Bandcamp for a killer three track EP, and follow him on the tumblcoaster here.

earsofthebeholder:

Here’s a powerful track to get you pumped for the new week. I found this on The Road Goes Ever On’s recent mix called Small Summits - definitely some choice tunes on there worth exploring! Though now a member of the Bay Area music scene, Canada’s GOBBLE GOBBLE takes the very minimal, chilled out “Beach 2” by Persona La Ave and completely flips it around. It’s like the musical equivalent of turning a 1988 Volvo into a Le Mans race car. It’s not really a remix, it’s a whole new song completely. Check out GOBBLE GOBBLE on Tumblr too.

HEALTH // Die Slow (Nite Jewel Remix)

I must admit that every time I see ‘Nite Jewel’ in a bracket with remix in it I pounce on it. They previously wooed me with their killer remix of one of the best singles of the year so far: Caribou’s Odessa. This remix takes a more minimalist approach with a laid back disco lounge sound. The lack of too many sounds allows for the crisp melancholy vocals to take centre stage.
