Life Aquatic Records Release :

[LA002] Albatross : Murder / Casper’s Theme

Its finally time to announce our next 7” vinyl release: AlbatrossMurder / Casper’s Theme double A-side. One of the most exciting acts to emerge from Sydney in the last year has definitely been Albatross.. They take their time perfecting their sounds and hence have not released a great deal of mp3s, so it makes this 7” all the more special. The amazing album art was made by the talented Jacob Ring, who we hope to work with again in the future.

It has been a pretty complicated few months with Lucas (head of Life Aquatic Records) and I only seeing each other once in the past 6 months, when I just got back from Europe and as he was leaving to Europe. We managed to still hustle up the funds to pay for this wax release and we are pretty proud of it. The mp3s are free but you can pre-order the 7” vinyl from our Bigcartel page. There will only be 250 copies of these bad boys so get in there quick before they run out.

The full release is availible on their Bandcamp long with two incredible remixes by Guerre and Dro Carey.

[LA001] Life Aquatic Records Release  :

 Naminé // Velvet

Our first release comes from the bedroom of Darcy Baylis from Melbourne. This teenage wunderkind has been making some pretty chill tunes in the last few months and made some waves with his free self titled EP. The murky sounds of Velvet play like a darkly tropical dance track. Sampling eerie video game dialog he strengthens the image of an isolated bedroom artist.

The b-side to the Velvet 7” will premiere on one of our favorite blogs in about a weeks time, so keep your eyes open for that one.

The amazing album art was taken by the photographer Ivana Cunja from Slovenia. The photo comes from a group of underwater shots taken by her with a disposable camera. Follow her photo makings on flickr.

You can all go and pre-order the 7” over at our newly launched Bigcartel page. The vinyls will be sent out in late January or early February. With a limited press of 250, we are hoping to sell out at one stage (fingers tightly crossed).

Our second and third release have been penciled in already, so we’ll hopefully have a minimum of 3 releases for 2011. Its going to be a great year for Australian music.

Announcing: Life Aquatic Records

A belated Christmas present for you all. I will be launching a tiny 7” label in the new year. It will only release Australian artists on 7” vinyl. In a lot of ways its a way for me to discover new Australian artists and give a bit back to the music world. The blog has been such a great creative outlet for me and I think its only fair to repay it with something like this. I also think it would be great to see more Australian artists on vinyl, there are so many that deserve it but don’t get the opportunity.

For the most part this label is only going to make monetary losses. With limited presses of 250 vinyls and the fact that they have to be shipped all over the world twice makes this label quite a costly venture (they are pressed in Germany and distributed from Sydney). It will be run by my good friend Lucas Frey and myself. He is the one who really pushed the idea and will be putting in 50% of the dough. He doesn’t have a music blog or anything, but he digs music muchly, so follow his photo tumblr and his twitter for good luck.

Our first release has already been pressed and are lying at Lucas’ German residence , the announcement and pre-orders will begin around next week with a release planned for February 10. I cannot tell you how excited we are to get these vinyls out to the world.

The label will be a lot of hard work, but I still don’t think it should be taken too seriously. I’ll be blogging exactly the same way as I always have, except once in a while I’ll release something on vinyl. Either way, I hope you like this blog enough to support us so we can keep making records.
